Lynn Barclay
President and Chief Executive Officer
Lynn Barclay became President and CEO of the American Social Health Association (ASHA) in July of 2006 and immediately took the challenge of leading the transformation of this 94 year-old nonprofit specializing in educating the public about and advocating for those with sexually transmitted infections.
For virtually every major health issue, Americans can easily access information. When it comes to sexually transmitted infections, only the American Social Health Association (ASHA) is dedicated to advocating for as well as providing medically accurate information and support to patients, providers, policy makers and the public. In a time when these subjects are not always welcome topics her greatest desire would be to eliminate the stigma associated with infections that more than 19 million Americans will experience this year alone. In fact, more than half of all people will be infected with an STD at some point in their lifetime.
With more than 25 year experience in nonprofit management, Ms. Barclay is a seasoned nonprofit executive whose career has largely focused on meeting the needs and interests of those most at risk.
Following her early nonprofit work, Barclay became a nonprofit management consultant. In this capacity, she advised a wide variety of organizations on strategic planning, outreach, fund development and programming. Clients ranged from large and small organizations as varied as the Salvation Army to community choral arts groups.
In a career that began with a BA in Public Relations from the University of Alabama, Barclay has received numerous awards.
Throughout her career, Barclay has aligned her efforts with organizations committed to advancing social change, helping to foster civic dialogue, and promoting the responsibility of nonprofit institutions to their communities.
