National Herpes Hotline (NHH)
Since 1979, the National Herpes Hotline (NHH) has been a cornerstone for ASHA?s Herpes Resource Center. The hotline offers information specific to herpes simplex virus to anyone concerned about herpes including individuals who are diagnosed, partners, health care providers and educators. In addition to answering questions about various issues including transmission, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of herpes, trained health communication specialists provide emotional support to the many individuals affected by herpes. The hotline also offers a wide range of referrals and educational materials such as the news journal, the helper, the book, Managing Herpes and various free publications.

National Social Life, Health and Aging Project (NSHAP)
ASHA is collaborating with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) and the University of Chicago in support of the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project (NSHAP). NSHAP is a national longitudinal, population-based study to address several social, health and behavioral issues within older populations. Test result counselors provide test results, counseling referrals and materials to men and women participating in the study.

HerpeVac Clinical Trial for Women
The HerpeVac Clinical Trial for Women is being conducted jointly by the National Institutes for Allergies and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health and GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals. Test result counselors provide test results and counseling for women attempting to enroll in this Phase III clinical trial of a candidate vaccine to prevent genital herpes in women.

National Prevention Information Network (NPIN)
The CDC National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) is the U.S. reference, referral, and distribution service for information on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and tuberculosis (TB). NPIN produces, collects, catalogs, processes, stocks, and disseminates materials and information on HIV/AIDS, STDs, and TB to organizations and people working in those disease fields in international, national, state, and local settings.

Research Study Enrollments for large NIH-funded research study
Since 2003, ASHA has been screening prospective study participants to enroll 50,000 eligible women in an environmental research study on breast cancer. The study examines genetic, biological, and environmental risk factors for breast cancer in a breast cancer-free cohort known to be at higher risk for the disease. ASHA?s health communication agents serve as the first point of contact and first impression to women at their decision point for making this 10-year volunteer commitment to contribute to the scientific community?s advancement in understanding risk factors for breast cancer.
