Herpes Resource Center
The Herpes Resource Center (HRC), a program of the American Social Health Association (ASHA) focuses on increasing education, public awareness, and support to anyone concerned about herpes. Since 1979, the HRC has helped over five million people. Today, people continue to depend on ASHA and the HRC for accurate and up-to-date information about herpes via the Internet, a newsletter, brochures, a book, and other publications and referrals to local support groups. The HRC is also a voice to increase public awareness about herpes issues through the mass media, a sponsor of medical research on herpes, and an advocate for responsible national policies for STI treatment and prevention. Our services include:

National Herpes Hotline
The National Herpes Hotline (NHH) is operated by ASHA as part of the HRC. The hotline, which receives over 60,000 calls a year, provides accurate information and appropriate referrals to anyone concerned about herpes. Trained Health Communication Specialists are available to address questions related to transmission, prevention, and treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV). The NHH also provides support for emotional issues surrounding herpes such as self-esteem and partner communication. The hotline number is (919) 361-8488, open from 9am to 8pm, ET, Monday through Friday.

Order reading materials
The HRC provides up-to-date, in-depth materials on herpes on ASHA's Online Product Catalog, including our revised book, Managing Herpes: Living & Loving with HSV, and quarterly herpes newsletter, The Helper.

Herpes Support Group
The HRC has an affiliated network of local support groups for people concerned about herpes simplex virus, called HELP groups. These groups provide a safe, confidential environment where participants can get accurate information and share experiences, concerns, and feelings about herpes.  Each group has a medical advisor. Click here for a list of current HELP groups in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
